The NextGen Center for Influenza and Emerging Infectious Diseases includes a cutting-edge biocontainment facility that can house a range of animal models and conduct an array of influenza-related research. The facility contains 8,300 square feet of BSL-2 containment space which can be adjusted using advanced climate control systems to a wide range of temperature (from 5° to 30°C) and humidity (from 10% to 90%) levels. This allows us to address important host-pathogen-environment interaction questions, such as virus transmission. The facility is essentially self-contained with offices, freezers, necropsy space, a cold room, laundry, and autoclaves.
